Position Overview: Casual Packing Operators
We are currently filling 4 x Casual positions at our Hornby site. These roles are perfect for individuals who appreciate variety and are adaptable to the rhythms of fresh food production. While casual, these positions offer consistent hours within our daily operational flow.
- Location: Hornby, Christchurch
- Status: Casual
- Training: Comprehensive training is provided—no prior mushroom experience is necessary.
- Shift Pattern: Shift lengths are based on daily production requirements. The team works together until all daily duties are completed, fostering a strong sense of shared purpose.
Your Role: The Core of Our Operation
As a Packing Operator, you are the final guardian of our product’s quality before it reaches Kiwi households. Your primary duties will be varied and essential:
- Machine Operation & Line Work: Safely operate and monitor various packing machinery and production lines.
- Product Handling: Carefully load and unload mushrooms from racks and pallets, handling our produce with the utmost care.
- Data & Weighing Accuracy: Enter harvester and tray data into pre-pack computers and weigh trays with precision—your attention to detail ensures perfect pack weights every time.
- Packing & Order Assembly: Weigh, wrap, and assemble orders for both pre-packs and bulk bags according to specific customer requirements.
- Team Support & Hygiene: Assist with general cleaning duties to maintain the impeccable hygiene standards of our machines and work surfaces, crucial for food safety.
Who We Are Looking For
We value reliability, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic above all. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Physical Fitness: The ability to perform repetitive tasks and comfortably lift weights up to 15kg.
- Numeracy Skills: The ability to read and understand scales and numerical data accurately.
- Pace & Experience: Comfort working in a brisk, productive environment. Previous packing, factory, or warehouse experience is a distinct advantage.
- Problem-Solving: Good practical skills to help troubleshoot minor production line issues. A mechanical interest or aptitude is highly regarded.
- Reliability: An excellent attendance record and unwavering dependability.
- Safety-First Mindset: A committed approach to following all health, safety, and food safety protocols without exception.
- Logistics: Reliable transport to and from our Hornby site.
- Legal Right to Work: Must hold New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa and currently reside in New Zealand.
Please Note: Due to the comprehensive training investment, this role is not suitable for those seeking very short-term employment (e.g., less than a few months). We are looking for team members who want to grow with us.
